Situated on the banks of the River Cauvery, Tiruchirappalli is the 4th largest city in Tamilnadu. It is an important industrial and educational hub in Tamil Nadu state. Trichy has an International airport with regular passenger flights to Chennai, Dubai, Kuwait, Colombo, Singapore and Malaysia. It is 336 km from Chennai via National Highway and is also an important Railway Junction. Daily express buses connect it with many other major cities and towns.

This city was the citadel for many dynasties like early Cholas, Pallavas, Pandyas, Nayakas, Marathas, French, Nawabs and the British Colonial rulers. Naturally therefore it has a blend of different cultural orientations and many interesting historical facts and fables. Some of the most famous historical monuments in Tiruchirappalli which are also of great tourist interest are the Rockfort, Temples of Srirangam and Thiruvanai Koil, St.Lourdes Church, Nadharsha Dharga, Mukkombu Sutrula Maiyam (Upper Anaicut) and many others.
